Everette's big girl room

Right before Thanksgiving, we transitioned Everette into her new big girl room. With baby brother on the way, we wanted to give her and ourselves, plenty of time to get used to her new bed and room, since we would be moving the baby into the nursery. Until then, this has just been an unused guest room in our home, but I always knew it would eventually be her room.

All of the furniture in her room was actually my husband's grandmothers, and he has owned it since he bought his first home over ten years ago. The dresser, chest of drawers and night stand were all hers, and we just gave it a face lift with a couple fresh coats of paint.  The chair was also hers, and I just selected a coordinating fabric to have it recovered.

The headboard was something that a friend was getting rid of when moving a few years ago, and while I didn't know at the time what I wanted to do with it, I knew I wanted it. So we went and carried it down two flights of stairs, and it's been in our attic ever since. A pretty little fabric and she's brand new.
Everette really wanted to have a pink big girl room, and I had no idea how tricky pink paint was until I used about 6 samples. Ultimately, we landed on this Benjamin Moore Cream Puff color and I really do love it.

This summer one of my girlfriends was in a Home Goods in another city, and sent me pictures of both of these lamps. She knew I was scheming up a big girl room, and thought these would be perfect, and she was so right.  She packed them up and brought them to me. Easiest decor by far and a very good friend. Fun fact, she got the blue ones for her boy's room.
A lot of the little knick knacks in Everette's room were some of my things from childhood. She has some of my favorite books, and these Madame Alexander dolls were once mine as well. I love getting to use these special things in her room, and I know my Mama loves seeing them again too.
For bedding, I wanted something cozy but very durable, and I loved this sweet little quilt from Target. We elevated the look by monogramming her shams, and had adding a bolster pillow to match the headboard.

For curtains, we went with these look alike roman shades (they don't actually fold all the way down) and I used a light white linen and then trimmed them with remnant fabric from the headboard.

Everette's sweet little room has certainly become one of my most favorite in our home. It was so surreal putting her to bed on her very first night, and I cried the last day she slept in her crib, but she has transitioned so well into her new spot, and is truly so proud of it. There is nothing sweeter than reading and snuggling in her big girl bed together, under the covers and sometimes both of us falling asleep, but shh don't tell.
